What is Mute Video?
Remove the audio track from any video — completely strip it, not just silence it. The video stream is stream-copied unchanged (lossless, instant), only the audio track is dropped. Output file is smaller and has no audio at all.

Examples
Silent screen recording
Strip the keyboard-clack audio from a 5-minute screen recording for a clean tutorial that someone else will narrate.
Background-music replacement prep
Mute the original soundtrack of a clip before adding your own music in an editor.
Privacy redaction
Mute a video to remove an embarrassing background conversation before sharing it.
Common use cases
- Cleaning up screen recordings before voice-over
- Removing background noise from family videos
- Stripping copyrighted music before re-uploading
- Preparing video for replacement audio track
- Quick privacy fix for accidentally-captured speech
Troubleshooting
- Output still plays sound
- A second audio track may still be present. Toggle "remove ALL audio tracks" instead of "remove primary track only".
- File size barely smaller after muting
- Most of a video's size is the video stream — audio is usually 5-10% of total. The savings are small unless the source had a high-bitrate audio track.
- Some players show "no audio device" warning
- Toggle "add silent audio track" — a few players require an audio track to exist (even if silent) for normal playback.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Muting only strips the audio track; the video stream is copied over unchanged, so there is zero quality loss and processing is nearly instant.
